Boogie Board Surfing

We had a hard time in Sri Lanka but there was one beach that was perfect for me. It was a shallow beach break with two to three foot waves. The waves crested at waist deep for me and out deeper there were big four foot waves. Honestly it was kind of a great beach for my family, my mom could sit on the beach and there were a bunch of shaded chairs. My dad and brother could surf the deep and I did some of that too. There was even a monkey named Michael that I got to cuddle. But I got to do what I found out I liked even more than surfing: surfing on a boogie board.

Not a surfing picture but you can see the waves that we where on.

In the beginning, all three of us surfed, but for me the board and the waves are big and hard to handle, and I'm too small. So one day I decided to switch it up and instead of a surfboard I got a boogie board. A couple of days before my dad told me he saw some people once kneeling on a boogie board and it gave me an Idea…at first I just boogie boarded for a minute. Then I got on my knees and had a lot of fun with that, and after that my brother kept telling me that I should stand up. So after a minute I gave in and said that I would stand up on the next wave. Right after I caught the wave I stood up, I was surfing a boogie board, then after a couple milliseconds, I plopped into the water. I stood up many times and I finally got the hang of it. I fell off so many times, but it was so worth it for the feeling of being pushed on by a wave. On my last ride I rode it all the way in.

After surfing, a good hamburger is always welcome…

Here in Bali boogie board surfing is not so good because the waves are too small and break too far in. but we tried to rent a boogie board. The plan was to at least try to stand up but even that didn’t work. My brother got on his knees a couple times but I kind of just bombed in the water with my dad. Later, we ended up paddling out to an underwater cave. The tide was going out so we knew that we wouldn't get stuck in the cave. It was a small sand bottom cave with one room. Because we had to swim in, we couldn't bring the camera and don't have any pictures.

Boogie board surfing didn’t always work for me but I had so much fun trying. So if you are a beach kind of person, like my brother or live on the beach you should try surfing on any kind of board because they are all fun.
